Video of a Running Virtual Machine Using VMware on a Mac Pro
May 23, 2008Here we go with the geeky info……I uploaded my first video to YouTube so it may not be perfect but it is a start. The video gives a little bit of information about virtual machines.I boot up a Windows XP virtual machine using VMware fusion on my Mac Pro and show you how to run Internet Explorer on a Mac (sort of).
This is one of the tools I use to do my website development for my internet businesses. It allows me to test my websites on multiple configurations with different operating systems and in different browsers. By using the VMware virtual machine software, I can do all of my testing on my Mac Pro system without having to physically have several different computers to test with.I can run multiple versions of Windows (XP, Vista, etc.) and I can run multiple versions of Linux while running on my host Mac OSX system. It gives me the best of all worlds and a lot of flexibility.
VMware can be run on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. It is a valuable tool in many ways for many people. You can find it at http://vmware.com .

Hi Hill,
I enjoy your site and videos, so thanks for your efforts!
One question about VM Fusion…Due to infamous security risks with Windows and the web, is it possible to build my websites on my Mac, that require Windows-only software, (hence needing VM Fusion), then in order to avoid any security threats, can I just simply transfer the finished website over to my Mac, ‘and then’, upload it to my server and completely by-pass Windows and Internet Explorer/MSN in the process?
In other words, build the sites using the Windows software and that’s all, and do all the other web-related tasks after the site is completed, via my Mac….I just don’t want any internet security issues with my new iMac 3.06GHZ
I hope I asked that comprehensively Hill
Thanks alot for your time!.
Best wishes,
Mark

Mark,
Thanks for the kind words. I don’t know if I fully understood your questions exactly but I decided to give it a shot. I went ahead and make a video that hopefully answers your questions. Take a look at my latest post (6/28/08) to view it.
